Block Prints
2023 - 2024
How do you illustrate classical Jungian archetypes with only 90 degree angles? Well, my block print series answers that question. I was inspired by geometric designs and carvings from ancient civilizations such as the Aztec.
Combine that with my family tradition of fortune telling, and voila. So far, the cards I have carved relate to my life circumstances at the time.
This is an ongoing series of work, with the oldest being created in 2023. It is my eventual goal to create an entire Major Arcana (the fancy fully illustrated, non court cards) series.
The Tower
2022
5"x7"
The first entry in the series. The Tower represents ego death, extreme sudden change, very unstable foundations and destruction of the status quo.
I carved this after a failed intervention for a friend, who was using various substances to get through art school.
The Sun
2023
9"x12"
The Sun is the happiest card you could possibly draw out of a Tarot deck.
Overall abundance, happiness and a YES to any questions the querent has. This was carved after my most recent visit to Paris, somewhere I love dearly and am inspired by constantly.
The World
2024
9"x12"
The World - as the last card in the Major Arcana, she represents the completion of cycles, spiritual balance and contentment, and attainment of long term goals.
As corny as it may sound, The World was carved when I graduated design school with honours, won my medal, and entered post-grad.
